Craft Breweries Open Doors in Courtenay and Cumberland

Craft Beer Arrives in the Comox Valley

Beer drinkers in the Comox Valley must be in paradise with THREE craft breweries opening their doors over the winter of 2014/2015!! Cumberland Brewing Company and Gladstone Brewing Co. are already open for business, and Forbidden Brewing Co. is hoping to serve its first pint in March.

Cumberland Brewing Company

Cumberland Brewing Co. logoCumberland Brewing Company opened its doors in December 2014 and is situated on Cumberland’s main street (on Dunsmuir next to Riders Pizza). This craft brewery promises to brew ales, casks, and barley wines! Have a pizza and beer in the lounge or take some brewery-fresh ale home in a growler (1 or 2 litre), pig, or keg!

The micro-brewery is a joint venture between Riders owners Caroline and Mike Tymchuk, and Darren Adam. Mike Tymchuk is an accomplished craft brewer and has won multiple awards during his time at Calgary’s Wild Rose Brewery.

Gladstone Brewing Co.

GladstoneBrewingCoCapLocated in the heart of downtown Courtenay, Gladstone Brewing Co. can be found at the corner of 4th Street and Cliff Avenue, next to Mud Sharks. To date, the master brewer at Gladstone has brewed an IPA, Imperial IPA, Belgian Single, Belgian Golden Strong and a Porter.

Gladstone’s tasting lounge is open 10 AM to late every day or you can find their handcrafted beer on tap at local restaurants and pubs. Visit their website to see where Gladstone’s is served.

Forbidden Brewing Co.

Forbidden Brewing Co. logoForbidden Brewing Co. is coming soon to the Westerly Hotel in Courtenay. This nano-brewery will be opening its doors in March and its first two offerings will likely be a Kölsch and a Pale Ale. Enjoy a glass in the tasting lounge or come in to re-fill your growler!
