Caesar salads are menu staples at virtually all the best Comox Valley restaurants. So why do people flock to Union Street Grill for our grilled Caesar?
Let’s see . . .
We start by gently tossing together charbroiled baby Romaine lettuce, croutons and freshly shaved Parmesan cheese along with our homemade dressing—it’s all about the finely tuned dressing! Then we top it with your choice of barbequed Albacore Tuna, barbequed Rock Fish, grilled chicken breast or grilled prawns.
Add some freshly squeezed lemon juice, a dusting of Parmesan cheese and a twist or two of freshly ground pepper at your table, and you’ve got yourself the best Caesar Salad in the Comox Valley!
The history of the Caesar Salad
People have been enjoying the classic Caesar Salad since the early 1920s. There are many claims as to who invented this tasty yet simple salad, but it was most likely Caesar Cardini—a restauranteur who immigrated to the United States from Italy.
Living in San Diego, Cardini and his brother, Alex, opened a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico to evade Prohibition laws. It’s at this restaurant that the Caesar Salad is reputed to have been born. After a busy weekend rush and running short on supplies, it’s said that Caesar Cardini concocted the salad with ingredients he had on hand. To give it some flair, he prepared the salad tableside.
The Caesar Salad has been well received at lunch and dinner tables worldwide ever since. We proudly serve it at ours.
