With five simple, stress-free entertaining tips
‘Tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry with friends and family. Whether you are hosting a holiday brunch or a fabulous feast on Christmas Day, you likely want to throw a wonderful Christmas gathering without a whole of chaos.
Holiday hosting often wraps itself up with a whole lot of stress. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. You can easily hack your way to a holly jolly party every time you entertain with the help of five terrific tips…
Keep it simple
If cooking really isn’t your thing, don’t plan on serving your guests intricate dishes or a five course meal. It’s best to stick with what you’re good at and plan the type of gathering around your culinary skill set.
If you make killer Crêpes, why not create a tasty brunch menu that is sure to wow your guests? If you love making appetizers and can mix up a marvelously merry Moscow Mule, why not plan a festive evening filled with cocktails and munchies?
Whatever type of gathering you decide to host, be sure to plan it out and prepare as much as possible ahead of time. Keep in mind that buffet style parties make hosting a cinch, especially if your guests are bringing dishes to share.
Set a merry table
Start with function and avoid a cluttered table, by first including the items you need the most for a meal (such as plates, glasses, silverware, and napkins).
When you add in the festive decorations, stick to one theme and a colour palette that compliments your existing home décor. You can never go wrong when you add greenery, winter blossoms, glittery napkin holders, and the warm glow of candlelight to your table.
Cut branches off the bottom of your Christmas tree and incorporate them into your tablescape, or you can tie them to the back of your dining chairs with festive ribbon. Use small bouquets of white blooms—such as amaryllis, peony, and roses—to help set a stunning tablescape. Add in touches of eucalyptus leaves or rosemary branches, and shiny Christmas balls to add a little whimsy.
From metallic tealight candle holders and neutral pillars of varying size to antique candlesticks and votives on top of upside down wine glasses, the options to cast the perfect glow are endless.
Plan the perfect playlist
Pull together the ultimate list of tunes to help set a merry mood. When choosing tracks for your playlist, keep your audience in mind, cover a range of genres, and don’t forget to mix in some classic Christmas tunes—it is a holiday gathering after all.
Use what you have
When it comes to holiday décor, don’t feel like you have to shell out hundreds of dollars on decorations for your party. Use what you already have!
Old holiday decorations will breathe new life with a quick spray of paint and the addition of greenery, pinecones, and festive ribbon. Now is the time to use that cake stand your grandma gave you to display candles and some greenery, or perhaps your vintage collection of Santa Claus ornaments.
