I love this restaurant! I am new to the Comox Valley and I am thrilled to have found a restaurant that caters to a healthy lifestyle! Always fresh ingredients and so much selection! Love it! -Amber
Great environment, great, fresh food with lots of focos on our local producers, and a wonderful 100% Celiac Menu! The kids menu is more creative then usual and the prices are beyond reasonable! I have yet to be disappointed when I visit the Union Street Grill! -Anonymous
I love going to the Grotto. Whether it’s to pop in for a quick coffee or to sit down with my family for a relaxed dinner. This restaurant is very family friendly and I can truly relax there while dining with my three year old. There is a cozy nook in the back where there are toys, books and games. It’s like being at home in my living room except I don’t have to cook or do the dishes and the staff and food is great. -Anonymous
Caesar salad supreme, that has been my favourite. I love all the interesting food choices offered…always a surprise to see what is on the menu. Offering gluten free choices is a winner for me also. Thanks for the emails with alerts for monthly specials. -Paulette Rose
Great food and atmosphere. I have eaten regularly at the Union St and Grotto for nearly 10 years and have even had staff Christmas parties there for my company My Tech Guys. Consistently great food and great service keep me coming back. -Bob Wells
Delicious food and great service. I usually choose the Daily Special, the Chef is so creative and every dish is so tasty and fresh. I don’t have a favourite because everything I’ve tried has been so good. I am not Celiac but some of my friends are, it is wonderful that the Union Street Grill has a Gluten Free Menu. The staff is friendly and helpful. -Barb

Really appreciate the Union Street Grill’s dedication to fresh ingredients, locally-sourced wherever possible, and that they are very conscious of food allergies/intolerances. I feel safe eating here an always welcome. Also enjoy the special menus they provide for various events throughout the year – the wild mushroom bruschetta and the taco salad were amazing! Hope they become regular features.
For years, Union Street Grill was my go-to spot for lunch. Now that I work in a different town, I mostly go for dinner. The service is always good, friendly, efficient and fast. The food is excellent and has a great local flavour. I’d highly recommend Union Street.
Gluten-free diners commonly need to avoid deep-fried foods, but at the Union Street grill they have a dedicated gluten-free deep fryer! French fries, yam fries, and my favourite of all, Schooner Squid, are all present on their extensive gluten-free menu. If you have missed having Calamari due to gluten restrictions, you must must must go to the Union and try their Schooner Squid!
Last week I decided to choose a new item from the gluten-free offerings and tried the BBQ Beef Rib. This was served on a tasty bed of mashed potato, yam and squash along with a lovely salad and it was exquisite! The beef was melt-in-the-mouth delicious.
They even have G-F desserts. My husband and I shared a gluten-free Pavlova, which was totally to-die-for! Comox Valley Celiacs need suffer no longer!
Union Street Grill has been consistently one of our favourite places in Courtenay to enjoy high quality food, a peaceful setting, and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Every aspect of their menu is commendable. We are continually surprised by new and unique pasta and seafood combinations and their great variety of tapas items. Their burgers are the best in the valley, uniquely flavoured, using local meats, and of a manageable size that doesn’t fall apart in your hands. Their dessert menu is all wonderful, but I usually go for their fruit cobblers, among the best that I’ve had anywhere!
